Intel’s Core i5-13400 desktop CPU has emerged in tests by Indonesian tech outlet Jawara and shows an improvement of up to 30% over its predecessor.
The Intel Core i5-13400 CPU delivers a 30% performance increase with 30% higher power consumption but the same cool temperatures
It was recently reported that certain Asian retailers have already started selling Intel’s 13th Gen non-K CPUs ahead of their early January launch. The CPUs will be accompanied by a new line of B760 motherboards when they launch on January 3rd. While this is certainly not the first time we’ve looked at benchmarks of this particular chip, it’s definitely the first time a retail chip has been leaked.

In terms of specs, the Intel Core i5-13400 CPU has 6 P cores and 4 E cores, giving a total of 10 cores and 16 threads. The CPU has a base clock speed of 2.5 GHz and a boost clock speed of 4.1 GHz for all cores and 4.6 GHz for a single core. The CPU has 28MB of L3 cache and will have a PL1 TDP of 65W and a PL2 TDP of around 120W. The CPU should be a budget hit given its jump in performance and its value of around $200, where Intel’s 12th Gen line already dominates.
Intel Core i5-13400 vs. Core i5-12400 CPU Benchmarks (Credits: Jawara):
In terms of performance data, the Intel Core i5-13400 was compared with the Core i5-12400 in a short series of tests. The test platform consisted of an ASRock B660M PG Riptide motherboard and 16GB of DDR4-3600 memory. In Cinebench R23 single-thread, the Core i5-13400 CPU is 6% faster than i5-12400, and multi-threaded results show up to a 30% increase in performance. The CPU also transmits 22% faster in Blender and Adobe Premier.
Intel Core i5-13400 vs. Core i5-12400 CPU Power & Temps (Credits: Jawara):

The most important metrics are the power and temperature readings. In Cinebench R23 multi-threaded tests, the Intel Core i5-13400 drew 30% more power than the Core i5-12400 (86W vs. 66W) while temperatures were mostly the same as the Alder Lake chip around the 60 °C mark, which is definitely easy to see. Again, the Core i5-13400 shouldn’t push wattages up much when gaming, and these should end up below the 30% jump seen in multi-threaded benchmarks like Cinebench R23. Expect more information on the non-K 13th Gen lineup at CES 2023.
