When you embark on a cruise, you may never imagine being thrown off the ship midway through and stranded in a foreign land.
However, this is exactly what a man and his family experienced due to a computer error on behalf of the cruise line.
The family was stuck on Thanksgiving after being kicked out of the cruise.
The man and his family were asked to disembark the cruise ship after it was discovered that their young daughter traveling with them did not meet the age requirements for the trip.
In a TikTok video that has been viewed over 1 million times, father Scott Raia shares that he and his family were thrown off a Princess Cruise ship due to the age of his baby daughter Lucy.
“This is the story of how this baby got kicked off a cruise ship on her first Thanksgiving this week,” Raia says while holding his daughter.
Raia explains that he and his family have boarded the Regal Princess Cruise ship for a vacation across the Atlantic to Florida from Europe.
Three days into their trip, Guest Services reached out to Raia and his family.
“They said there was a computer system error that misidentified Lucy’s age,” he says.
The cruise line had a minimum age of 12 months for a transatlantic voyage – making Lucy too young for the ship.
Since the family had already been on the cruise for a few days with no problems and it was a mistake by the cruise line, they were unprepared for what happened next.
“They kicked out our family in the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa,” claims Raia.
“So this little baby and his family spent our first Thanksgiving together, stranded in a strange land.”
At this point, Raia says his family has yet to receive any refunds, expenses for their time in the Canary Islands and an apology from Princess Cruises.
In the comments, TikTok users expressed their shock and anger at the situation.
“They’re leaving a baby on the ship so how can they make up their mind just three days later?? What on earth,” commented one user.
“It’s not safe for you to be on this cruise ship, we’ll just drop you off on this island. Good Trip!’ That’s not how you treat a little princess,” pointed out another user.
Other users suggested Raia hire a lawyer to ensure he gets his money back.
“If all paperwork shows their age and they had their passport…lawyer,” one user demanded.
Raia posted a follow-up video in response to a user asking why they hadn’t seen the age requirements on the cruise’s website before booking the trip.
Raia shared that he is a former Princess Cruises employee and booked the voyage through a standby cruise program.
“Of course we didn’t lie about the baby’s age,” he adds. “We gave them the correct date of birth and uploaded their passport. It was a computer system error that didn’t catch it.”
Raia also praised the guest services on the ship for their “kindness” and commitment to doing everything in their power to keep family on board.
The decision to boat her was made by representatives of the Princess Cruises company itself.
