“Odell will join us”

After this Odell Beckham Jr. market seemed to be slowing down Jerry Jones speeding it up to the point where he expects the eight-year veteran to sign with the Cowboys soon.

Jones had said that Beckham, playing in the regular season, would have a strong impact on a Cowboys signing, but even after OBJ made comments that he’d rather join a team to prepare for it, just in the playoffs to play, the longtime owner expects to go through this agreement.

Odell will join usJones said of USA Today’s Jarrett Bell. “There’s a good chance he will, with the full goal of getting ready for a playoff game or two, and then I’ll look to the future. But most of it is now.”

The Cowboys, viewed as the front-runners ahead of Beckham’s three-visit week, could transition to that long-rumoured commitment after their Week 15 game against the Jaguars, Bell adds. While Beckham has been seeking a multi-year deal, Jones said the focus would be on a Cowboys deal for the remainder of this season.

Beckham’s visit to the Cowboys made several headlines centered around his ACL rehab, which was taking longer than expected. Rumors surfaced that Beckham wouldn’t be operational until February. Beckham tweeted a farmer emoji after the visit, and while the same leaks about his health haven’t surfaced following his visits to the Giants and Bills, the rumors linking him to the New York suitors have died down. Conversely, the Cowboys have continued to speak to Beckham and have said those talks are happening. Jones’ confidence indicates that this process is nearing completion, which would put an end to one of the longest-running free agency sagas in NFL history.

The former Pro Bowler hasn’t coached for the Giants, Bills or Cowboys, but Jones confirmed that Beckham has coached and “is exceptional.” After a week and a flurry of uncertainty in the Cowboys-Beckham drama, the tone seems to have shifted back to lavish praise here. Jones and several Cowboys players spent time recruiting the marquee free agent before and during his time in Dallas last week, and although Beckham’s hopes for a deal in the $20 million AAV range never seemed aligned with his situation , could be a uniquely structured contract in the cards.

Beckham is a season-long free agent for the second year in a row, and it will be interesting to see how Cowboy’s contract — should Jones and co. finally finalize that deal — compares to his stimulus-rich Rams deal ( which ended up paying $4.75 million) as of November 2021. Beckham’s second cruciate ligament tear in 20 months cost him a lucrative free agency payday this year. The former Giants, Browns and Rams target could seek to skip this season to prioritize a market run in 2023 — a scenario rumored in the league this week — but Jones believes OBJ will play this season.

Should Beckham sign, the Cowboys will field an intriguing receiving corps for the playoffs. The team has CeeDee lamb and Michael Gallup, the latter recovered from a cruciate ligament rupture in December 2021 and is the leader. and Dalton Schultz has improved after a slow start. Beckham would also stand by reducing the roles Jacob Washington, Noah Brown and new signer Ty Hilton. Acclimation issues can arise as it’s not exactly common for teams to introduce a high-profile skill player into the mix in the playoffs, but Beckham and Dak Prescott Navigating these would increase the Cowboys’ offensive cover — assuming Beckham is in full action by mid-January.

I’m confident we can get into some important games and have some Deion Sander-Enter results‘ Jones said. “Could it be possible to get a great player like him into two or three playoff games and make some significant plays? I guess so. That’s not an exaggerated thought at all.”

Beckham has had a tumultuous 2021 in which he forced his way out of Cleveland, but the LSU grad’s late-season form has propelled that market. The former Giants first-rounder exceeded 100 yards in the Rams’ NFC Championship game win and was on track to match that feat in Super Bowl LVI before suffering an injury in the second quarter. We may soon finally see what Beckham looks like after his second major knee setback.
