NVIDIA will reportedly offer an official price drop for its GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card by mid-December, as reported by Chinese Board Channels.
NVIDIA Reportedly Prepping GeForce RTX 4080 Price Drops For Mid-December, AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX Threat Reconsidered?
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card has been a failure when it comes to performance per dollar. The $1199 graphics card was the biggest price increase for an 80-series card we’ve seen, and despite shipping smaller quantities than the higher-end RTX 4090 cards, the new graphics card doesn’t seem to be faring well sell is still widely available commercially. Even scalpers who received the card on launch day are struggling to get the cards out of their hands.
Now, according to a report by China’s Board Channel, certain sources have indicated that NVIDIA is preparing a price cut for the GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card. The price cut is expected to be announced in mid-December, right when AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 series cards hit store shelves.
According to Boardchannels, the RTX 4080 will be priced in mid-December.
However, the source does not emphasize the price reduction before RDNA3, but from their own considerations. The price will be reduced appropriately to improve value for money and boost sales.https://t.co/M0bXfHqDZI

The board channels also report that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 price cuts aren’t out of fear of upcoming competition from the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT graphics cards, but rather because NVIDIA is pushing the cost and performance value has reconsidered numbers on the card to enable better sales. Personally, I’d say it’s a mix of the two, as the $999 Radeon RX 7900 XTX, which is $200 lower in price, is definitely far more appealing to consumers than NVIDIA’s offering. A price drop on the GeForce RTX 4080 would also mean that the RTX 4070 Ti, which launches in January, might not have the $899 price tag of the “unreleased” GeForce RTX 4080 12GB graphics card either, as it does should.
We can’t say for sure how much NVIDIA will drop in price for the GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card, but you might expect it to be closer to the 7900 XTX, say $1049 or $1099. It remains to be seen whether the performance can keep up with the Radeon variant, since the benchmarks of the competition are still pending. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 is now also available in the European market below the MSRP thanks to the US/EU currency adjustment.
