AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT 9

The RX 7900 XT features AMD’s most advanced RDNA 3 architecture with excellent rasterization performance. Ray tracing is still a second-rate feature, and while AMD’s GPUs are faster than the previous generation, they still lag behind Nvidia’s in DXR games. This is even without considering the continued popularity of DLSS.

One big thing is the inclusion of DisplayPort 2.1, especially for VR gamers and those hoping to use the first 8K gaming displays once they become available. For its latest GPUs, Nvidia opted for DisplayPort 1.4, which is still enough to power modern high-end monitors like the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8. However, the standard may have certain limitations over time.

Interestingly, AMD has pushed back the release date of the RX 7900 XT a little further. Although it’s more than the 450 watts that the RTX 4090 draws, the power consumption is significant. The final design increases the card’s total board power from 300 watts to 315 watts for slightly better performance.

The Compute Units contain interesting notes. Two ray tracing accelerators and one AI accelerator are provided for each computing unit. Unlike Nvidia’s approach, which separates AI cores from ray tracing cores, this is different. Currently, there is no obvious application for these AI accelerators outside of machine learning.

AMD’s MBA GPU models feature a USB Type-C display output, two DisplayPort 2.1 outputs, and an HDMI 2.1 connector. Although AMD AIB partners can swap this connector for a second DisplayPort connector, AMD wanted to give gamers the option to use USB Type-C. Perhaps AMD assumes that VR headsets will use this type of connection in the future.

Once we reinstalled this case’s tinted side window, AMD’s RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX blend in nicely, giving your system a clean and undercover appearance. The card is about 4.5cm thick from the board, plus another 0.5cm for the backplate.

This results in a total width of 5 centimeters. In orderly variety the whole width. A quick look at the slot cover, that would be the end of the tour (brackets). The card is a fantastic choice for VR gaming as it has two DisplayPort 2.1 connectors (up to 8K 165Hz or 4K at 480Hz), an HDMI 2.1 socket and a true USB Type-C connector.
