Google and Samsung continue their joint advertising campaign with a 3D anamorphic billboard in Times Square highlighting the Galaxy Z Flip 4, Google Assistant and YouTube Music with the help of Ludacris.
A 3D anamorphic billboard makes content bounce at you. Google uses one in the iconic NYC spot to continue an ad campaign showing Assistant on the Flip 4.
Specifically, the Flip 4 is in its 90-degree “flex mode” configuration, which acts as a kickstand. A Dog (from the Ludacris album Word of Mouf) tries to take a picture with a normal phone, just placed at an angle, but fails. This isn’t the first time physical performance has been emphasized in pets.
The musician then enters the scene and says “Hey Google, play Stand Up by Ludacris,” which is the song used in a previous ad. This will launch YouTube Music, while “take a selfie” is the next command and we’ll see pictures being taken hands-free. There are then some demos that highlight the 3D nature of the billboard.
“The new kind of selfie. Just like that” is the slogan with a link to Samsung.com/GalaxyZFlip4.
It is a very eye-catching promo developed in collaboration with design studio CEKAI and Universal Music Group. The 3D billboard featuring Google’s ad is located on Broadway between 40th and 45th Streets on the sides of the New York Marriott Marquis.
“I’m honored to be working with Google and Samsung and proud that they chose Stand Up as the campaign’s main song, especially as 2023 marks 20 years since its release. Whether I’m meeting fans or taking photos with my family and friends, my days are filled with up close and personal photos, so using the Google Assistant to take a hands-free selfie with the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will help me catch them even more memories. As New York City is one of the greatest stages in the world, I look forward to bringing this innovative technology to life on a borderless billboard in the heart of Times Square.”
Just last month, Google and Ludacris teamed up for the 3rd annual Black Owned Friday campaign.
“People love Google and Samsung products because they are designed to foster a world of creativity. That’s why we’ve placed innovation that supports self-expression at the heart of this campaign. That’s also why we’re excited to capture the spirit and joy our product brings to everyday life in our latest OOH activation. Over the years, our partnership with Samsung has set the bar for experimentation and creativity, and we’re incredibly excited to demonstrate the latest iteration of that with our new billboard featuring Ludacris and Google’s powerful software designed to unleash new possibilities for the to open up self-portrayal.”
